How to Choose the Right Size Dining Table:

Step 1 – Start With Seating

When it comes to selecting the perfect dining table, many people jump straight to the table dimensions. However, at The Table Guy, we believe the first step should be deciding how many people you want to seat on a day-to-day basis. This ensures your table not only fits your space but also suits your lifestyle.

Consider How Many People You’ll Seat Daily

Start by thinking about your regular dining habits. Is your family of four, or do you often host larger gatherings? Identifying the number of daily diners helps narrow down your table options before you even think about inches or centimetres.

Look at Chair Sizes Before the Table

Once you know your seating requirements, the next step is to consider the chairs themselves. Chairs come in various widths, and some designs include arms that can increase the overall width. This matters because chairs with arms may:

  • Make the table feel cramped if your table apron is too tight.

  • Prevent chairs from fully tucking under the table, affecting legroom and comfort.

For a seamless fit, measure the width of each chair and leave at least 60 cm per person around the table. If chairs have arms, consider adding an extra 5–10 cm per seat.

Why Bespoke Tables Matter

At The Table Guy, every table is custom-made to suit your unique requirements. By starting with seating and chair dimensions, we can adjust the table size—both length and apron height—to ensure:

  • Chairs fit comfortably under the table.

  • Everyone has adequate space to dine without feeling squeezed.

  • The table complements your interior perfectly.

Choosing a table should never be one-size-fits-all. By focusing on seating first, you can make an informed decision that ensures comfort, style, and practicality for years to come.
