Oval Chunky Scandi Banqueting Dining Table - Twin dowel-clad plinth base

This Oval Chunky Scandi Banqueting Dining Table is designed around proportion, texture and finish, allowing each piece to be made specifically for its space. With a softened oval top and twin dowel-clad plinth bases, the design balances visual weight with clean Scandinavian lines.

Built by hand in our workshop, this table is ideal for larger dining rooms and banqueting layouts where scale, stability and finish matter just as much as appearance.

Design & Construction

Dowel-Clad Oval Plinth Base

The table sits on two 600mm diameter circular plinths, each clad in vertically set semi-round timber dowels. This softens the form of the base, adds subtle rhythm and texture, and gives the table its calm, architectural character. The rounded footprint improves movement and leg circulation around the table, while the solid core ensures long-term stability.

Softened Oval Tabletop

The oval top removes hard edges and creates a more relaxed, social dining layout. Its proportions work particularly well at longer lengths, allowing generous seating without the heaviness of a rectangular form.

Solid Pine Top

Crafted from solid pine, the tabletop highlights natural grain, knots and character. No two tops are the same — variations in tone and marking are part of the appeal of working with real timber.

Finishes & Options

Painted Plinth Bases

The plinth bases can be painted in any Farrow & Ball colour, allowing the base to sit quietly within a scheme or act as a contrasting feature. The dowel detail takes paint beautifully, creating depth and shadow without feeling busy.

Stained Tabletop

The pine top can be stained in a wide variety of colours, from light natural tones through to darker, richer finishes. This allows the table to be tailored to existing flooring, cabinetry or architectural details within your home.

The plinth construction distributes weight evenly, while the sealed tabletop finish makes cleaning and maintenance straightforward.

As your Table is totally bespoke, you have many factors to consider before ordering.

This will of course include;

The exact length, by default we have increments of 100mm, but you can have any length.

The width, largely this is governed by the 600mm Plinths, please contact us with your requirements

Whether existing seating matches the table height and chairs with arms slide under the frame.

Height of Table: 76cm (to the top edge). Please ask if you require a bespoke height.

The Plinths are 600mm +/- 20mm in diameter, consider these when choosing your chairs.

Table Top Stains:

Constructed from 40mm thick pine boards, the top benefits from repeated sanding that are then stained with Manns, a environmentally friendly, high quality, water-based wood stain for interior wood (with a colour of your choice ) which is then protected with Fiddes Hard wax oil, a premium hard wax oil for interior wood surfaces made from a blend of natural oil and waxes.

OR for grey tones we use Osmo Natural Oil woodstain an all-in-one protective oil and preserver.

Always hard to see correctly in photos due to light variations. As the tabletops are reclaimed boards, no two boards are the same, so will take the stain slightly differently. We do endeavour to get as close as match as possible on all our samples, but there may be a slight differences.

Plinths:

The plinth carcass is constructed from Mdf discs and 3" x 2" timber, then wrapped with flexi mdf sheet, covered by semi-round dowels.

As standard we offer any colour from the Farrow & Ball range but are happy to accommodate any other suitable manufacturer.

As with all wooden indoor furniture, your table will require some aftercare, we therefore recommend a suitable furniture wax (not spray) from time to time - available in store.

If your table is delivered during the winter months, we strongly advise not to place it near a heat source or in a hot room for a few weeks so that the table can slowly settle to it's new environment,
